The book has been made into a movie "I Saw the Light", which will be released later this year.Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ruth Merritt; daughter, Juli Rogers (Charlie); son, Mark Merritt (Karla); grandson, Sean Fuller; great-granddaughter, Braylie Fuller; and many friends. He is survived by : his grandmother Clary Merritt; his daughters, Gena Ledford of Cordele and Melinda Edwards (David) of Cordele; and his grandchildren, Sam Ledford, Sydney Ledford, Camille Ledford, Davis Adkins, Jordan Adkins and Peyton Adkins.
